ABOUT

"True Art is characterized by an irresistible urge in the creative artist."    - Albert Einstein

I renamed myself ‘Bichitra’, when I was just five years old. The name, derived from the ‘Vichitra Veena’, a veena shaped like a peacock, beautiful, yet difficult to play. Vichitra means something unusual or peculiar.

Born in a musical family, I have taken my first vocal lessons from my father, eminent violinist Pt. Ajit Mukherjee. Yet, my inner urge for dance made me choose ‘Nritya' to put in my whole and soul.

From a very early age, I was clear of my passion and love for dance. I learnt Kathak in the Guru Shishya Parampara from Smt. Tanima Ganguly,  eminent Guru Bireshwar Gautam and Smt. Keka Sinha. My guru Shri. Baidyanath Gangopadhyay further refined my skills in this dance form and enriched my knowledge in various folk dances and Indian Ballet. I have also learnt Bharatnatyam from Smt. Thankumani Kutti at Kalamandalam.

From performing on stage in national and international events to choreographing special themes, scripting ballets to directing and producing events, I have explored each and every theatrical aspect.

I am the founder of Advaita Productions which promotes experimental art. During my brief stay in Vizag, I founded the 'Probasi' group that focused on preserving and encouraging folk art. I am also an active member of the Hindusthan Art & Music Foundation.

My quest for performing arts has only increased by experience. There is still a lot more to explore, to experience  to enrich oneself from.. I pass this energy and enthusiasm to my students.

TO ME, DANCE IS MY SOUL.....

BICHITRA MUKHERJEE
